Bernard sent a link over this morning with the latest video at Essex University and Shanghai Jiaotong University for the Mixed Reality Classroom project collaboration with Sunlabs.
I am looking for a University who would be interested to collaborate with Sun in support of the One Laptop per Child Initiative. The project would entail a port of the OLPC School Server to OpenSolaris and creation of some basic set-up and installation documentation. I have a Solar-powered Wi-Fi network solution provider in place to
enable bandwidth to remote areas currently up to 44km in distance. (http://www.green-wifi.org).
The systems will then be bundled locally in countries of need with a low-power T1000
Niagara server along with the free documentation. We expect a support model of about 100 XO laptops per server. There is a current deployment of 200,000 to Uruguay
and Peru coming next with an order of 260,000 and Libya at 1.2 million.
We believe total financial investment required to enable the port and
market initiative would be under $10,000 which I will support. Thanks.
If you are in Seattle for Educause or just a school in the area and interested in e-Learning, please join us for the Sun-Blackboard Forum on our Throughput Reference Architecture. We'll have drinks, dinner and special guest Charlie Lendhardt from Georgetown University. Plus, folks can take a cruise through the Museum. Everyone is welcome
