Digital Hollywood - Day One

Kevin Roebuck
Director, Digital Experience

It's a beautiful day in Santa Monica and the first session just broke entitled " The Exploding Appetite of Film, Cable, TV and Broadband Networks - The New Golden Age of Hollywood". They'll post the whole session in video on the main site, but here are the notes from the discussion relating to educational content and learning:

  1. CurrentTV - Now in 50 Million homes
  2. Short-Form Content - 3-10 minute videos (Learning Objects?)
  3. Different experiences for different media formats
    • Narrative format of Film vs Television (30min-1 hour episodes vs 2 hour narrative)
    • Platform: Moble vs Home
  4. New advertising models for universities and branded content and services
  5. Allowing viewers, ie students, to participate in the generation of content (courses)
  6. Audiences are not time-based. A TV show is not on at 9:pm on Tuesday's, it's on whenever you download or stream it (Classes on Demand)
  7. Brand relationship - Alumni, Faculty, Students, Parents
  8. Owning the reaction to the experience as much as the experience itself
  9. The merger in roles between content creators and instructional designers
  10. Plummeting costs of digital tools and distribution models
More tomorrow including our Launch Party Reception for the University Project Island in Second Life. Join us in-world at 6:30pm.
