Exploring Mobility, Chatbots, Blockchain and Augmented Reality solutions in the Cloud to re-imagine Education & Research

A Visual Search Appliance

Kevin Roebuck
Director, Digital Experience

Last week at ALA I spoke with several interested parties
on the idea of an enterprise-ready visual search appliance
for academia. This appliance would plug directly into
the datacenter rack and provide easy, distributed visual
search capabilities across both the public web and
private, deep-web resources in a universities subscription
portfolio.

The idea be to would combine a grokker visual search
mapping interface with a federated engine and connector library
from Muse along with the the sun portal search and solaris
webservices stack all in a nice T2000 or SunFire x2100 ordereable
off the Web for cheap.

I figure I'll spend a few cycles in the next week and
configure up a model for it all. Then, I can start to talk to people
about it at the Sun Worldwide Education Conference in March
in New York.

In the meantime, if anyone else thinks it may be an interesting
initiative, please send me your thoughts or flames...
