Dual-screen with OpenSolaris 2009.06 and NVidia Drivers
By Karim Berrah on Jun 29, 2009
As I'm used to use dual-screen on my laptop, because my laptop luckly have an NVidia GeForce 9600M GT (well, OK, it's a MacBook Pro), and OpenOffice knows very well how to deal with a second diplay when using Impress (the presentation application), I decided to check what is the maximum resolution supported by an external display.
I could easily go up to 1280x1024, but I needed more. So, I asked a friend who owne a 42inches Plasma screen with HDMI connection. So, I bought a miniDIV to HDMI connector (you can buy one from Apple or a third party vendor)
How to do that ?
I upgraded my NVidia driver (you can have version 185.18.14 from www.nvidia.com), and could easily reach 1920x1080x24 (Full HD) even with 3D acceleration and video (using the iSight Webcam). Thanks to NVidia !! The full procedure can be found here and here is a picture in 1920x1080x24 (.If you think that you computer can show HDMI resolution pictures, you should be able to view (and zoom to actual size) the following picture without scrolling horizontally.
We don't have HDMI resolution on our computers yet, but OpenSolaris is already ready for that :)
