Meet FishCAT Member Wim Verreycken
By judytang on Dec 13, 2008
With this blog I would like to introduce FishCAT member Wim Verreycken. The first part is the FishCAT survey with Wim, the second part is Wim's bio. Wim is one of our top FishCAT contributors, he sent more than 100 email posts to quality mailing alias to share his expertise with the community, he filed more than 10 bugs which helped to improve GlassFish quality. When I asked Wim will him continue with FishCAT program, he said: "I don't see why not! It's a great opportunity to get problems fixed fast that could otherwise be blocking issues", he is so right, it is the key reason to have FishCAT program. Thanks Wim so much for all your great contribution to GlassFish quality !
GlassFish Quality Community (GFQC): What functions you like GlassFish v3 Prelude, and what you like
to see improvement
Wim: Well, I certainly like the fact that it now runs entirely on Felix OSGi. Also, ejb3.1 support. And the fact that session beans can now be packaged within a war comes in handy.
GFQC: What part of quality are solid for GlassFish v3 Prelude and what you like to see improvement
Wim: The pluggable architecture together with updatetool provides a reliable cross-platform plugin installation and removal. Also the possibility to quickly install plugins from admin GUI or CLI is convenient. One really has a whole bunch of options to choose from for remote management. Improvement ? Euh.. Well for me it does pretty much everything I need in a web project. If I have to, maybe the installer can be improved to show more of what it is doing, and more information in case of an error?
GFQC: What things you like about FishCAT, and what you like to see improvement
Wim: What I like most is to see that there is such a great community out there! A post on the mailing list hardly ever comes without numerous replies. If a problem turns out to be a bug, the response of the development team is incredibly fast. I was amazed to see some bugs posted to be fixed in the very next promoted build!
GFQC: Will you continue with FishCAT program and would you recommend
FishCAT to your friends and ask them to join us
Wim: I don't see why not! It's a great opportunity to get problems fixed fast that could otherwise be blocking issues. And I learn a lot from it as well. Will ask everyone I can think of !
GFQC: Any other suggestion you like to let us know, your input is very valuable to improve GlassFish quality, thanks !
Wim: Since you ask... I'm waiting for that MDB support in v3 :)
GFQC: Optional, do you have any fun memory about FishCAT like to share
Wim: Let me put it this way. When I see a Neuhaus chocolate store I now laugh spontaneously and think of Glassfish V3 Prelude. Just to say it isn't all GlassFish that is discussed on the mailing list and FishCAT really is a fun community!
Since his education at Group T Leuven Institute of Technology, Wim Verreycken has been working as a system administrator. Also a freelance consultant, he is active in the security, telecommunications and the banking sector. As a big fan of opensource software Wim loves to be dealing with operating systems like Linux, FreeBSD, OpenSolaris and Tomas Matejicek's Slax. Involved in several e-commerce and web projects over the years, he started thinking about his own. In search of the best architecture and platform for the project, he turned to Glassfish. Having learnt a lot from the community Wim felt it was his turn to give someting back. He doesn't blog (yet), but likes to spend his spare time helping out people on the various mailing lists and websites he is subscribed to (glassfish, netbeans, nbj2ee, opensso, apacheds, cxf, ...).
