KL SunTech Days 2007

SunTech Days are getting to be one of the major developer events around the globe. Consider the Hyderabad one, over 7,000 developers under one roof. And another 3000 more remotely. And people, this is bang in Microsoft territory of Hyderabad. :-)

I was reading on the next event. SunTech Days, Kuala Lumpur. Seems to be a success as well. Here are some blogs from the developer community in Malaysia.

In the words of a Sun Tech Day participant...

I came across this blog which is a review of the recently concluded SunTech Days in Malaysia. What struck me were the recommendations for a future.

  • Get local (foss) developers to talk. Though I would prefer FOSS
developers, just getting more local people to show case their stuff is
important to show that we, as Malaysians, are moving forward. We can
    produce stuff.
  • Start/Emphasis/Help local (Open)Solaris/Java User Groups.
  • Get students to talk, its can make a stronger point to the students attending.
  • Its Free Software also damnit!
I am really glad that we had India Sun engineers present at Sun Tech Days, Hyderabad. Not only that, we had two speakers from the Bangalore OpenSolaris User Group who gave some captivating presentations. Can you believe that 100 folks signed up for Hyderabad OpenSolaris User Group after that? This is just the folks who remembered to sign the piece of paper we circulated for getting memberships. I understand that it is a lot easier to do the above in India since we have an Engineering Center here. The same would be difficult for Malaysia. Hey, may be, we can call Sun engineers from Singapore who can help bootstrap the local community in Malaysia.

In the papers this morning...

I was quoted in a Times of India article. It is about folks who are dabbling in opensource while their day jobs are not related to computers. I am proud to say that USM Bish (name misspelt as UBS Vish) and Ananth are both BOSUG members. We seem to be making to the news very often. :-)

To all OpenSolaris enthusiasts in Hyderabad

If you are an OpenSolaris enthusiast in Hyderabad and vicinity, please make it a point to attend the SunTech Days Developer Conference in Hyderabad from Feb 22 to 23rd, 2007. There is a Solaris and OpenSolaris Day planned. Agenda should be coming up soon.

A whole bunch of Solaris stalwarts are going to be there. And Moinak Ghosh, creator of BeleniX will be speaking at the event. There are going to be booths and demos. It would be a great chance to interact with engineers working on OpenSolaris.

I am trying to arrange a meeting of the Hyderabad OpenSolaris User Group at the event. May be a BoF session. If you are interested in OpenSolaris or know someone who is, could you please ask them to email joe.g@sun.com (joe dot g at sun dot com)?

If you are a student, academic or developer, we have something for you.

See you in Hyderabad!
