The Evolution of the Oracle Mexico Development Center

Manuel Angel Castillo
LAD Employer Branding Lead

As a Manager at Oracle, Erik Peterson wanted to find Latin America’s voice in the world of technology. He knew there were talented developers and coders in the region that just needed the chance to work for an innovative and forward-thinking company like Oracle.

When he started looking for a possible place to set up a new development center in Latin America, he landed at the city of Guadalajara in Mexico. The decision was made mainly because of the available talent: with plenty of universities in the area, he knew he was going to be able to find the best people for the job.

And he was right. In less than 6 years, the Mexico Development Center (MDC) went from 5 employees to 1,000. And they were working on everything, from our Enterprise Manager Suite to Database technology crafted specifically for online videogames.

With so many great people, and so many great projects, the need to evolve and grow became apparent. So now we’re working on a new and improved MDC.

With 7 floors and more than 13,000 square meters of office space, the new Oracle MDC will bring a contemporary Silicon Valley feel to Mexico. It will provide employees with everything they need to continue on their quest for innovation, and to continue creating the next generation of tech products.

The new building will include plenty of areas for our employees to relax and unwind. These include an outdoor terrace—dedicated to yoga and meditation—, a pyramid—dedicated to gamers—, and other commodities.

Of course, it will also have cutting-edge workspaces, designed to accommodate the individual needs of our employees; ergonomic design will always be the driving force behind these spaces. After all, it’s hard to be creative when you’re not fully comfortable.

Oracle’s commitment to the environment is very important. That’s why we’ll also include green spaces, designed around local flora. Not only will they look amazing, but they will also contribute to improving the quality of the air our employees, and the people around our new offices, breathe. Construction is being performed in a sustainable fashion to reduce the impact on the local ecosystem to a minimum. Plus, cycling and walking paths will be provided to encourage our employees to leave the car at home and reduce their carbon footprint.

This is just the beginning. Stay tuned to our Explore Oracle channels for more information on the new MDC as we get closer to our 2019 grand opening.
