Professional discovery abounds at Oracle Summer School

Raluca Ursu

Graduating from university and not knowing what to do with your life can be scary. But it can also be fun! Here at Oracle, we believe the discovery of your professional path should be the latter. Oracle Romania’s Summer School program is how we get you going on your way to finding out what you’re good at and what you’re passionate about within the tech industry, regardless of your area of study. Our 4-week program takes a number of students and graduates from the most prestigious local universities on an organization tour, allowing them to both get to know Oracle as a business and start their career in the corporate environment.

But Oracle Summer School is an opportunity for Oracle employees to develop and shine as well. Mihaela Adămiţă, Oracle EMEA Recruitment Resourcer, is one such example. She embarked on the adventure last year as a programme coordinator, and 4 weeks later she had gone through her own journey of professional discovery. “From a work perspective, it definitely has developed both my recruitment and project management skills,” Mihaela shares. “Interacting with both candidates and stakeholders has shaped my professional behavior and has pushed me out of my comfort zone,” she adds.

An Accounting and Information Systems Management graduate with a Human Resources Management Master’s Degree, Mihaela joined Oracle in 2015 as a Recruitment Assistant. The Summer School in 2016 was her first assignment in the transition to her new role. She had full project ownership, which allowed her to interact with both the candidates and various business representatives within Oracle, acting “like a bridge between the two”.

Her challenges? “Recruiting over 40 bright students/fresh grads within a relatively short period of time, coordinating a young and highly energetic group of students, focusing on multiple tasks a time.”

The outcome: “Oracle Summer School changed my career from both professional and personal perspectives. The biggest highlight is to see the changes I made into the participants’ life as a career guide and talent coach throughout the program. Yesterday’s Oracle Summer School students are now Oracle employees and part of the global organization.”

So if an Oracle employee gets to develop new skills and learn new things, what happens to those who actually participate in the program aspiring to a seat at the table?

“I think, as a student/graduate, it can be quite challenging to know your career direction,” Mihaela says. Through various workshops and training sessions, participants can explore themselves and figure out what would best suit them as young professionals. “For a number of lucky ones, Oracle has now become part of their lives, as the company has offered them roles to kick-start their careers,” Mihaela confides.

With tech employers leading the battle for talent, possibilities for students/graduates are virtually unlimited. Before you make a life-defining decision, consider Oracle Summer School as an opportunity to learn the most about yourself, and to discover the places where you’d be happiest and most successful. With former students in Romania recommending the programme to their colleagues and friends, the number of applicants is growing larger by the year.
