Harmanpreet Kaur joined Oracle NetSuite in 2022 as a technical support analyst in the general operations team. It wasn’t long before she’d proven herself enough for a jump in responsibility to case management for some of the company’s top customers. Today, she’s thriving in her role and grateful for the world of opportunities she’s discovered. We caught up with her to learn more about life at Oracle NetSuite and why she enjoys it so much.
Hi Harman, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. Could you tell us a little about yourself and what you do at Oracle NetSuite?
Well, I am originally from India and moved to Canada in 2019. I studied business administration with a focus on finance at college. After graduating, I joined NetSuite as a technical support analyst. Today, I work in the platinum team, where we take care of concerns for our top 200 customers.
I’m passionate about reading and painting. I enjoy experimenting with different art materials, like textured pastes. I also dabble in pottery, which I paint!
What’s the best things about your current role?
I find great satisfaction in managing cases and the challenges I face daily give me continuous learning opportunities. The constant growth and variety at NetSuite are why I love my job.
You said that you studied business administration in college. How did you end up working in tech?
My first internship during my degree was with a supply chain company. For my second term, I wanted to try something new. The co-op program marked my first experience in tech. I was eager to try it because I had always heard that tech was a great place to work. I applied for a role and was thrilled to be part of the first program cohort.
That’s a big career move! Was starting over in a new sector challenging?
I found the tasks engaging and enjoyed the work more than my earlier internship. Understanding the product area was not difficult for me, thanks to my background in business administration. I was already familiar with the terms and basic processes. I expressed my interest in returning to NetSuite at the end of the internship and was lucky enough to get the opportunity!
Can you tell us more about your internship experience with NetSuite? What new skills did you learn?
I’ve had many opportunities to gain experience in new things and make meaningful contributions. I often gave buddy training for our interns and new hires—dedicating a week to training them on case management. I also earned several new certifications, including Knowledge-Centered Support (KCS) Contributor, KCS Publisher, and SuiteKnowledge Contributor.
I first trained in order-to-cash and procure-to-pay and expanded my knowledge last year by cross-training in supply chain management and basic accounting.
Networking is extremely important to career success at any stage. Tell us how NetSuite’s culture of inclusion helped you build professional relationships.
Well, I also had the privilege of acting as a speaker in deep-dive sessions with our interns, addressing their questions around support and offering insights into our processes. This role fostered networking among us and allowed me to connect with other managers I wouldn’t usually meet.
You mentioned deep dive sessions… Professional development is a big part of life at NetSuite. How has that helped you visualize a career path for yourself?
Recently, I earned certification in SuiteFoundation and am working towards achieving the subject matter expert designation which will pave the way to other certifications. I am interested in joining the advanced customer support team or the consulting team in future so this should help!
Having that kind of direction be part of your work experience is a huge career advantage. Is the wider company culture the same?
Everyone at NetSuite is incredibly supportive and cooperative, and always ready to help when needed. Our managers consistently encourage our growth and keep us informed about new opportunities. Despite working from home, we stay connected daily and have weekly team meetings which helps our sense of community.
Having seen what NetSuite has to offer, what advice do you have for people considering a move to the tech sector or NetSuite in particular?
The top piece of advice I have for people starting their careers is to embrace a mindset of continuous learning and adaptability. Seek out mentors, ask questions, and take charge of your growth. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone—some of the most valuable lessons come from taking on new challenges. Cultivating a passion for learning and a willingness to adapt will not only help you grow but also keep you resilient and competitive in your career.
