When Mariangela’s friends recommended Oracle as a next career step, she immediately took notice of the opportunity. “My friends came to me and said that Oracle was building a startup-like Cloud team in Seattle, where you have the visibility to grow,” Mariangela says. “Even though I didn’t have any Cloud background, I was given the time to learn—everybody was very open to teaching me,” she adds.
As a Principal Technical Program Manager for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in Seattle, Mariangela belongs to a task force whose role is to be ready for, and address, emerging opportunities to improve customer satisfaction. “I handle very critical projects with high visibility, which have a direct impact on the company and its customers,” Mariangela explains.
Being a self-starter, Mariangela went beyond her role’s duties to set up OCI’s first Technical Advisory Board (TAB), which she and her team created for customers to come in and share feedback on its products and programs. OCI’s TAB has become a mechanism to engage with customers “so they can feel we’re listening to them, and establish a feedback loop for us to go back and show them what we did to address whatever their problems and needs were.”
Though she has a lot on her plate—she is also the mother of a two-year-old toddler—, Mariangela makes it all work thanks to the work-life balance that Oracle provides. “Management is very flexible and open; I am able to balance work, family, and raising a little child. You can have your quiet time for a couple of days and recharge. OCI has the best work-life balance that I’ve experienced so far,” Mariangela acknowledges.
