Join the Oracle National Security Group and surround yourself in innovation

"The Oracle National Security Group has people solving the hardest problems that the rest of the world doesn't know about." -Megan Fortenberry, Applications Account Manager, Oracle National Security Group

Meet Megan Fortenberry

Megan Fortenberry is an Applications Account Manager in the Oracle National Security Group. She has been with Oracle for 18 years. While attending Georgetown University, she was an intern and began working at Oracle two weeks after graduating. “I started in the Inside Sales organization and really didn’t know much about Oracle—I wasn’t a Management Information Systems (MIS) major, developer, or coder—but I was competitive and willing to learn, so I took the opportunity that was in front of me from an industry-leading technology company. It was one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made,” Megan remembers.

Sharing her views on her longevity with Oracle, Megan says, “I’m probably one of the few people who has been with the same company since graduation. Oracle does an amazing job at training and offering opportunities if you’re willing to learn and make the investment in yourself.” During her time with Oracle, she has invested in herself by embracing all of the training that Oracle offers, including learning about our technologies, negotiating, and sales. In addition, she credits getting advice from mentors, both formal and informal, to help with her success in the company.

Hard-working and dedicated to success

Megan’s ‘brand’ is that she knows how to leverage resources, is a quick study, is persistent, and knows how to win. She explains that she’s not afraid to ask for help and tries to surround herself with those who are able to complement her skillset and make her better at her job. “I don’t really take no for an answer; I’m persistent in getting what I need and helping our customers get what they need to succeed,” she says.

One thing that people don’t know about Megan, but has defined her for half of her life, is that she was a competitive athlete in college. She played volleyball at Georgetown for a Division I program that won the Big East Championship twice. This experience shaped who she is today, because it taught her to work hard to accomplish her goals, be persistent, and remain focused on what she wants. “I didn’t know that I was selling; I only thought that I was getting what I wanted.”

What makes the Oracle National Security Group special?

When Megan came to the Oracle National Security Group, she worked for Neal Robinson, USAF Brigadier General, whom she admired as a mentor and as a friend. He instilled in her the belief that Oracle technologies and solutions protected and secured the nation and the National Security mission. She also credits Oracle’s ability to continue to innovate and solve our customers’ hard problems with some of the smartest people and brightest minds in the industry as something that helps the Oracle National Security Group stand above other technology companies. She says, “Even if the technology or solution doesn’t exist today, someone at Oracle is working on that problem, and we’re fortunate to have such brilliant minds working on solutions to those complex problems.” Megan adds, “The Oracle National Security Group has people solving the hardest problems that the rest of the world doesn’t know about, and will never hear about. They’re like the unsung heroes who don’t get much recognition because of the customers we work with.”

Why the Oracle National Security Group?

Two reasons: from Megan’s perspective, many competitors do bits and pieces of what we do. However, Oracle has a holistic, end-to-end portfolio of products and applications that take advantage of all our advances and technologies to solve our customers’ challenges. In addition, being part of the Oracle National Security Group offers her the “opportunity to augment key skillsets or fill any gaps I have with those brilliant minds around me.” She adds, “Anyone willing to work hard and ‘roll up their sleeves’ to be a productive part of the team is welcome. We offer many opportunities and growth, so anyone willing to ‘pick up an oar’ should come join our team.”
