The Oracle NetSuite Solution Consultant Academy (SCA) Program prepares business professionals for an exciting and rewarding career, as part of the Pre-Sales Solution Consulting organization at NetSuite. We took some time to talk with David about his experience transitioning from the military into the program, and why veterans should consider joining. Check out his answers below and find out how you can apply.
How would you describe your experience in the SCA Program?
Coming into the SCA program I did not know what to expect since it was my first job after separating from the Marine Corps. I am glad to say that this experience has been hugely transformative in a short period of time. In this program I was able to tap into the strengths I built as a Marine like communication, organization, and work ethic while simultaneously developing new strengths in the professional realm as a knowledgeable business consultant and professional presenter. I am continually surprised at how I am being pushed to my limits, even in the context of my time spent in the military; but with each challenge I find that I am performing better and better, which is a true testament to how well-designed this program is.
What made you want to join the program?
Initially it was the prospect of joining a successful organization like Oracle NetSuite that drew me to the program, but once I saw the growth opportunity here I knew this was the right choice. While my military experience is invaluable, it doesn’t mean that I can succeed at any job from day one, but NetSuite is willing to invest six months of intensive training into SC Associates, which means that I can confidently apply my military experience to a totally new field.
What doors did your participation in the program open for you?
I was a Logistics Officer as a Marine so I have always planned on continuing with a logistics/supply chain career outside of the military. Here at Oracle NetSuite I will be specializing in solutions consulting for wholesale distribution companies so I will work closely with businesses who have supply chain needs and learning how they handle those needs across the spectrum of the WD industry. At the same time, I am learning about the surrounding processes including sales and financials, to gain a holistic idea of what it takes to run a successful business.
Why would you recommend this program to other veterans?
Veterans can always bring a unique perspective to the workplace, and I find that to be especially true here. We practice referring to our previous work experiences during presentations, and I find that I can tell relatable stories just as well as my peers who have come from the civilian workplace. The military is a microcosm of regular society so there is always a way to leverage your experience; you just need to be creative, and in the SC Academy you have plenty of opportunity to do that. I also think that the fast pace of this program will not be unfamiliar to any vet that has had to perform under pressure, so you will find yourself well at home if that is the case.
