Oracle Global Volunteer Day: Oracle @ the Children First foundation in Kilmore by Amin Abbas
For the second year running, the Melbourne Oracle team embraced Global Volunteer Day by volunteering at Moira Kelly's Children First Foundation farm in Kilmore, an Australian foundation that facilities medical treatment to children from all over the world. The team engaged in a number of activities this year, in addition to grass cutting, gardening and maintenance activities at the farm, the Oracle team replanted the veggie patches we built last year, rearranged the woodshed to make it safer for the children and fixed a big leak in the farm's dam. As per last year, we also presented the resident children with some gifts and books.
The foundation's resident volunteers were very appreciative of the critical work done this year and enjoyed sharing food and drink with Oracle volunteers. The foundations CEO Margaret Smith who happened to be visiting the farm spent few minutes chatting with our volunteers and thanked us for the now annual initiative. The farm's resident volunteers were relieved that this urgent work was done and didn't expect us to complete their wish list in one day.
Well done to all our volunteers who again proved that being good in technology doesn't stand in the way of being handy for a good purpose.
The Oracle volunteers enjoyed the activities and plan to come back next year.
