Networking through Blogs: By Prashant Singh

Lately, I have been receiving emails from various blog readers regarding queries on how do we network using blogs. There are many ways to network through blogs, as some of you would already be aware, like leaving great comments on other people’s Blogs. I have put together my thoughts that would really help you network better for your future prospects. There are simple and effective ways to build your network with an honest and personal technique:
Email a blogger directly or leave a comment on their blog, especially if he has commented on a post you wrote. I do this from time to time. In the email I say something like: “I wanted to send a personal note to say hello and to thank you for…” and then I tell them whatever it is they’ve done for which I’m thankful. Maybe they wrote a great post that really resonated with me. Maybe I really appreciated a comment they left on my blog. People will nearly always reply, and now you’ve made contact. That’s networking.
Provide value: Always be looking out for the interests of others in your network. For example, if you have a Software Architect in your network and you happen to come across an article online on Software Architecture that would be relevant to your network, why not send the link with a note that says you thought it would be useful to you when you saw the article? This will definitely add value to your credentials and to the people you know.
Interaction with the Blogger: Even stronger relationships are built when you go beyond email, instant messaging, or Twitter. Online communication does not mean you no longer talk or meet with people. Talk to people on the phone. This is why I use a service like Skype. You can make calls anywhere in the world through Skype. That makes it easy to keep in touch with others. Meeting with others face to face is still the best kind of networking you can experience. There are many conferences that you can attend and get in touch personally.
