GVD Oracle Italy: Food for the Poor
By Maria Sandu on Feb 06, 2014
In the frame of the Global Volunteer Days, Oracle Italy employees participated in supporting the “Banco Alimentare” food bank. Volunteers spent their time aiding the collection and distribution of food for poor people.
Banco Alimentare is member of the Italian Banco Alimentare Network, an organization with over 1,000 volunteers which collects still perfectly edible food which, having lost commercial value, would otherwise be destroyed. These foodstuffs originate from the food industry, organized large-scale retail trade, and collective catering services – by recovering them they become a richness for those who have too little.
Oracle Italy colleagues answered the call with great enthusiasm, the number of volunteers exceeding the maximum number of available places. They helped in checking sell-by dates and preparing boxes to be distributed to the local ONG.
Many of the #Oraclevolunteers will now take part in of next National Food Collection Day, Nov. 30th, and some colleagues will continue the experience participating as voluntary staff to collect food donated for charity in the supermarkets.
