Spotlight on a career path: Gabriel, Hardware Sales@Oracle Sweden

1. Let's start with introducing yourself and giving us an overview of your current role at Oracle!

Hello all! My name is Gabriel, I am a Hardware Sales Rep based in Sweden. I joined Oracle in November 2012 after working with hardware sales for four years at another large American IT company.

When I was offered a job at Oracle during the fall of 2012 there was no hesitation to accept the offer. What made me accept the offer from Oracle was the possibility of working for a company that has a unique ability to offer its customers hardware and software solutions spanning from applications to disk.

My current role at Oracle is to sell Oracle Hardware e.g. Servers, Storage and Engineered Systems to the entire public sector in Sweden...

The Recruitment Evolution by Louise Allen

Before we talk about the recruitment industry and 2013 trend predictions it’s important for us to reflect on 2012 and the challenges it presented. Our global economy has seen a continuing shift in the balance of activity move away from advanced economies and toward emerging markets, creating an increasingly complex economic landscape.  The October 2012 edition of the World Economic Outlook suggests ‘bouts of elevated uncertainty have been one of the defining features of the sluggish recovery from the global financial crisis’.

We witnessed companies implementing even more sophisticated cost saving strategies. As a result many technology organisations saw their customers deferring/cancelling their projects which had no immediate revenue return or cost saving.  This subsequently affects industry revenue growth, which is intrinsically linked with recruitment...

Cutting edge technology, a lone Movember ranger and a 5-a-side football club the team at Oracle’s Belfast Offices.

To see what’s in store at Oracle’s next Open Day which comes to Belfast this week, I visited the offices with some colleagues to meet the team and get a feel for what‘s in store on November 29th.

After being warmly greeted by Frances and Francesca, who make sure Front of House and Facilities run smoothly, we embarked on a quick tour of the 2 floors Oracle occupies, led by VP Bo, it was time to seek out some willing volunteers to be interviewed/photographed - what a shy bunch! A bit of coaxing from the social media team was needed here...

Hi, my name is John McGann and I am part of the Oracle Direct management team, based in Dublin.   Today I’m writing from the Oracle London City office, right in the heart of the financial district and up to very recently at the centre of a fantastic Olympic Games. The Olympics saw individuals and teams from across the globe competing to decide who is Citius, Altius, Fortius - “Faster, Higher, Stronger"

There are lots of obvious parallels between the competitive world of the Olympics and the Business environments that many of us operate in, but there are also some interesting differences – especially in my area of responsibility within Oracle...

Why it may be good to be confused: Mary Lo Verde’s Motivational Discussion at Oracle

Why it may be good to be confused: Mary Lo Verde’s Motivational Discussion at Oracle by Olivia O'Connell

Last week, we were treated to a call with Mary LoVerde, a renowned Life-Balance and Motivational Speaker. This was one of many events organized by Oracle Women’s Leadership (OWL). Mary made some major changes to her life when she decided to free herself of material positions and take each day as it came. Her life balance strategies have led her from working with NASA to appearing on Oprah.

Mary’s MO is “cold turkey is better than dead duck!”, in other words, knowing when to quit. It is a surprising concept that flies in the face of the “winners don’t quit” notion and focuses on how we limit our capabilities and satisfaction levels by doing something that we don’t feel passionately about.

Her arguments about quitting were based on the conception that ‘“it” is in the way of you getting what you really want’ and that ‘quitting makes things easier in the long run’. Of course, it is often difficult to quit, and though we know that things would be better if we did quit certain negative things in our lives, we are often ashamed to do so... [Read More]

Oracle Campus Recruitment Attend BITS Hyderabad HR Confluence Event

Oracle Campus Recruitment Attend BITS Hyderabad HR Confluence Event by Manognya Reddy

It was a pleasant morning and my thoughts were focused on meeting with the graduating batch of students from BITS Hyderabad Campus. Having reached the campus at 10:00 am, I was given a warm welcome by the Placement Officer and the Student Placement Representatives The students graduating in 2013 were all ready for the interactive session with HR representatives.

The HR representatives were from companies of diverse areas such as IT Development, Services Companies, Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Instrumentation Companies*.

Mr Maria Sundaram from GE Energy, Chief Guest addressed the students and gave insights into his own career and tips about what to look out for while applying for the first job out of college.

This was followed by an interactive panel discussion between the HR representatives from the companies and the students. A number of the panel members gave insights on focus areas before the students came up with the questions.

Some of the interesting questions that students came up with include:

  • What do companies expect from Master’s students as opposed to undergraduate students?
  • Would companies hire a passionate employee or a sincere employee?
  • Do students applying for OFSS need any special skills or qualifications to apply?
  • How important are the HR interviews and what is assessed during the same?
  • Student is interested in a certain company, but other companies are visiting the college before the preferred one, what should he/she do?
  • Students from Non IT background want to apply for IT jobs. What should they do to prepare?

This session went on for 2 hours and it was lunch time!

It was a great event and it is always good to interact with the students to help them on their journey into their career.

Oracle India Provides Choices For Students

For next year's graduating class of computer science and engineering students, the world is their oyster. I believe that in today's day and age the opportunities for graduates are truly endless. Many students have a misconception that Oracle is mainly a Database Company. While we certainly are leaders in the database space, there is so much more that we do. If you look a little bit deeper you will find we have business groups within Oracle creating technical solutions across all areas of the business world. I think that the opportunities available at Oracle can be those 'life changing' roles that students are looking for where they will learn, develop, be challenged and still have the opportunity to be themselves.

What other company provides as many choices for students as Oracle. The range of business and technical solutions we provide is enormous. At Oracle India we hire students across a range of different business groups.

Below is a presentation showing you just some of the different business groups that hire graduates in Oracle India. The theme is 'choices' because we believe with the variety of work we do we provide the choice to allow you to be you.
