There is a Japanese article in the February issue of Software Design about OpenSolaris on the EeePC. It's from Masafumi Ohta. Check it out.

OpenSolaris on Atom

Seems there's some news about OpenSolaris support for Atom. Links:
Also, for information about OpenSolaris running on the EeePC, check out Masafumi Ohta's blog in Japan and also eeepc-discuss on opensolaris.org.

OpenSolaris on the EeePC

OpenSolaris on the EeePC is moving right along in Japan. See's Masafumi Ohta's post on the L1E/L2 driver from yesterday (and thank you, Murayama-san). EeePC discussions are going on at OpenSolaris right here, and the community is getting more and more active all the time. Join in. Also, Ohta-san will be doing a lightning talk about OpenSolaris on the EeePC at Sun's Tokyo Tech Days on Wednesday. Stop by.

Tokyo Linux User Group 101008

Nice nomikai tonight with the Tokyo Linux User Group. There were guys there from 12 countries. Japan, Italy, Spain, Germany, UK, US, Argentina, Brazil, Korea, France, Iceland, Australia. And that's normal for this group. It's quite an international crowd, and to me that's part of what makes a healthy community. That's also why I like hanging out with these guys.

Tokyo Open Source Conference: Photos

I went to the Tokyo Open Source Conference today. This is a semi-annual, two day event usually drawing about 2,000 attendees and people from open source communities around Japan. The OpenSolaris community was there, of course, with some engineers and a community presentation from Masafumi Ohta on his EeePC work. I also had the great opportunity to meet Joe Brockmeier and some community members from openSUSE. Joe presented about the openSUSE community, its history and governance, and some of the new technologies coming out in the next release of the distribution. Very cool. And, of course, I walked around meeting other people and taking pictures. Great fun.

EeePC and OpenSolaris

Whenever I go to OpenSolaris events in Japan, I always trip over an EeePC. It happened again last week when I met Masafumi Ohta. He's got a blog at Blogspot and a channel on YouTube with a bunch of EeePC content for OpenSolaris users. If you are interested in this, you can subscribe to eeepc-discuss at opensolaris dot org, which is a new list associated with the Beijing OSUG and the Laptop Community Group. Check in with Robert Sohigian and Tim Foster on that list as well.

I'll have to get one of these things for my kid. She's already using my computer (my work computer, that is!), and we are now fighting over it when I get home every night. She likes to delete my emails with that big red "X" in Thunderbird. She likes to "click" on it. It's "fun" she says. Yah, joy. And this morning she almost emailed one of the OpenSolaris lists (with over a thousand people on it) as she hit "reply all" a few times. Scary. Time to get her a little laptop of her own. So, I'll look at the EeePC and see.
