New Kernel Conference Going to Australia

Check this out from James C. McPherson -- Kernel Conference Australia - it's coming! Very cool.

Last year I swapped some mail with James as he was talking about organizing a technical conference in Australia because he was frustrated that what he had in mind didn't exist in his area. So, he just want out and organized an event. Gotta love that. Action. Nice to see the conference will be open to multiple operating system communities, and nice to see that some top speakers are already booked from OpenSolaris. This mixing of communities is most gratifying. We should continue moving in that direction.

Congratulations, James. Your leadership is a clear inspiration and an example for us all to follow. Update: see new conference wiki here.

Open Source for Better Security

Quote: Asia finds security in open source: "Better security protection tops the list of buying criteria for open source software, reveals a new study conducted on Australia, China, India and Korea." -- ZDNet Asia

This is really excellent. I remember when the anti open source forces were trying to convince everyone that proprietary software was more secure. The message failed. Times change.
