New User Group Proposal Process

We updated the OpenSolaris User Group proposal process in Advocacy. It's much easier. So, if you want some opensolaris.org infrastructure -- a project space and mailing list -- for your OpenSolaris User Group, just send a proposal to advocacy-discuss with the name of the user group, two or more initial participants listed with their OpenSolaris user IDs, and a one paragraph description of the group (including location, activities planned, related organizations, etc.) That's it. Easy. There are some voting items and such, but it's all spelled out at the bottom of the Advocacy CG front page and also at the bottom of the main user group page. Everything is based on based on the OpenSolaris Constitution and the OpenSolaris Governing Board's Project Instantiation Policy, but we streamlined the process for user groups so we can move faster.

What about some opensolaris.org servers? And zones on them?

You have some cash? :)

Yes, I have cash. If you're implying what I think you might be implying I will make you this deal:

when the prices of Sun hardware drop down to TYAN barebone server prices (plus a \*reasonable\* price of parts), cash \*will\* flow.

As long as Sun keeps neglecting startups, and mistreating the small guys, there'll be no cash. At least not from me.

Hi, no, what I mean is that I have no cash to get machines for UGs. We (our team) have to pay for computers to offer the community just as customers have to pay for machines. Don't get me wrong. It's a good idea, but I can't see any budget for it in the near future. Also, it's interesting, some people do want access to computers but others want to run their own machines locally. The best I can do right now is offer projects.

Fair enough. I can well sympathize with you, since I know what budgeting stuff can be like.

Thank you kindly for the answer, it's much appreciated.
