JES (Mail, Directory, Calendar) on Red Hat w/ Sun's x4200

I was in Boulder, Colorado this week.  We were setting up a demo on how the Sun Java(tm) Messaging Server 6.2 could provide storage for Voice Mail.  One interesting requirement was that the customer required support for Red Hat Rel 4 Linux.  Personally, I've never before  tried to install our product on Linux till now..  In this case, we were installing on a Sun x4200 Box.

Some of the few configuration issues we worked around.

Temporary File System
The Java(tm) Enterprise System (JES) installer requires that /tmp and /var/tmp must be on different file systems.   Some people like to just place a link from /var/tmp to /tmp, this causes all sorts of problems.  The JES installer will try to create a link within a link.

File Descriptor Limits
The only problem is this,
we need to set the ( ulimit ) value by using  /sbin/sysctl  because ulimit on Linux is a shell dependent variable, the value of ulimit
might be gone once you come out of the shell.  Change to bash shell and then set ulimit -n 20480 and restart the server
