ISP's Waking Up to SPAM Zombies

theSpamWeblog Earthlink finally recognizing that their subscribers are sending Unauthorized Bulk E-mail (UBE.. aka "SPAM"). They are not requiring their subscribers to authenticate when they send emails. This precaution will help Earthlink from being listed on various Remote Black Lists (RBLs). For the record, the Sun Java(tm) Systems Messaging Server supports Authenticated SMTP. This will allow not only ISP's but Enterprises to provide a Security Policy for E-Mail Submission Identity. As the user presses the "Send" button, the Mail Server authenticates the user. Then the server assigns the originator address "FROM" to that authenticated user. This allows companies to prevent "spoofing" e-mail addresses.
