Join us for a one hour meeting to hear from each of the EC members about their involvement in Java and the JCP - how they feel about the work we've done in the past year or two, and what they hope to accomplish in the coming year.

The JCP 2015 Executive Committee Nominees & Meeting

The 2015 Java Community Process (JCP) program Executive Committee (EC) nominations period has closed. The ballot will not open until Tuesday, 10 November, but the nomination materials for all of the candidates have been posted on This year we decided to allow the community to have a bit more time to get to know the candidates - we have extended the time between the nominations period and the opening of the ballot.  To that end, we will have a 'Meet the Candidates' meeting during the week of JavaOne in San Francisco, CA USA on Sunday 25 October at 6:30 pm as part of User Group Sunday in Moscone South (this is also known as the Public JCP EC Meeting) and will include some tasty beverages to get the conversation started, read beer ;).

The EC has a total of 25 members - 16 Ratified Seats, 8 Elected Seats and one permanent seat held by Oracle. This year there are 8 Ratified seats and 3 Elected seats up for election by the JCP Membership. JCP Members vote on the ballot to determine the JCP EC Members for the upcoming term.  And the candidates this year are... 

RATIFIED - 8 Candidates: Credit Suisse, Ericsson, Fujitsu, HP, Intel, Red Hat, SouJava, IBM. 

ELECTED - 6 Candidates (for 3 open seats): Eclipse, Jelastic, Jokl Technologies, London Java Community, Tomitribe, Twitter.

If you are not attending JavaOne 2015 (and I highly recommend that you do - check out the other JCP related activities at JavaOne, including the Hackergarten), we will also host a teleconference with the candidates are Thursday, 6 November at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. The recording of this call will be available on the multimedia page if you cannot attend live.

The 2015 EC Election ballot will open on 10 November for JCP Members to cast their votes, which will determine the JCP EC Members for the 2015-2016 term. The ballot will remain open until 23 November at midnight PST, and the results of the election will be published on 24 November.

JCP Members: please take this opportunity you have to influence the direction of Java by being informed and voting for the members of the EC!

2015 JCP EC Nominations Open

It is that time of year again! Nominations for the 2015 JCP Executive Committee (EC) have opened! The JCP will accept self-nominations for the 3 Elected Seats through Monday, 28 September.  More on the JCP Elections process is on Elections page of

JCP Members (JSPA 2 Primary Contacts) should have received email messages with instructions for nominating and their login credentials via email yesterday (on Tuesday 15 September). You will need this credential information to login and complete the nomination. The ballot with nominees for Ratified and Elected seats will be open from 10-23 November. All JCP Members can then cast their votes for the open EC seats. The results will be available on on 24 November.

Please also plan to attend the Public EC Meeting and Meet the Candidates during the JavaOne Conference in San Francisco on Sunday, 25 October in Moscone West (last session of the day - time TBD) and the Meet the Candidates call (Thursday, 6 November at 10:00 AM Pacific Time). We will primarily highlight the elected (vs ratified) candidates at the "Meet the Candidates Call". This is a great opportunity for the candidates to present their qualification statements to the eligible voters.

2015 JCP EC Elections Start in September

The 2015 Fall Executive Committee Elections will be starting in September.

The nominations period of the Elections will begin on 15 September. The JCP will accept nominations for Elected seats through 28 September. The ballot will be open from 10-23 November. The results will be available on on 24 November.

Public EC Meeting 9 December

The next JCP EC Meeting, and the last public EC Meeting of 2014, is scheduled for Tuesday, 9 December at 08:00 AM Pacific. This will be the first EC Meeting for our newly elected EC members, and the agenda includes an introduction to the new EC Members (MicroDoc, Hazelcast and Geir Magnusson Jr), a JSR & Membership update, and a new JSR Proposal by Individual JCP Member, Andres Almiray.  Meeting details are below.

2011 JCP Executive Committee Special Elections now

The 2011 JCP EC Special Elections are now underway! JCP Members were invited to nominate themselves for an open elected seat on either EC during the open nominations period, and every JCP Member may vote in the EC Elections. Each Member's primary contact has been sent voting instructions via e-mail. If you are a JCP Member and did not receive voting instructions, contact the PMO at

In this special election, two ratified seats are up for the SE/EE Executive Committee, one open elected seat is up for SE/EE Executive Committee, and one open elected seat is up for the ME Executive Committee.

Last day to vote in the 2009 EC Election

Tuesday is the last day to vote in the 2009 EC Elections...JCP program members please remember to vote!  The ballot closes on Tuesday at midnight pacific time, and results will be available on Wednesday morning, 4 November.  The new EC members take effect starting on Tuesday, 17 November.

The 2009 Elections are here!

The 2009 JCP Executive Committee (EC) Elections are here!   This year's elections run October 1 - November 3. 

Due to the changes introduced with the JCP version 2.7 Maintenance Release in June 2009, the time line for the annual JCP EC Elections looks a bit different this year.  The nomination phase is first--happening now at our Election web site.  Nominations for the 2 open EC seats--one on the Standard/Enterprise Edition (SE/EE) EC and one on the Micro Edition (ME) EC.  Any JCP program member may nominate themselves here.

On 20 October, the ballot for the ratified and open EC seats will be posted.  The  election will start on 20 October and end on 2 November.   The following seats are up for election this year: Fujitsu Limited, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Doug Lea, Oracle on the SE/EE EC, and on the ME EC Ericsson AB, Motorola, Qisda, Siemens, Vodafone. There are also 2 more seats open due to the resignation of Nortel (SE/EE EC) and Philips (ME EC).  

There are 2 open JCP EC seats--nominate yourself today! Nominations will be open until 14 October.  More information on the EC Elections available here.

The first and second phase of the 2007 Java Community Process (JCP) EC elections are completed. The third and last phase is  under way. (See my previous article on the same subject)
