The Participation Age takes time
By John Clingan-Oracle on Jun 07, 2005
I have been extremely busy working long & hard on a customer project. That means I haven't had much time to be a part of the Participation Age. It definitely is not from a lack of desire!
I long for participation. The whole blogging thing grows on you. Being heard is cool. Hearing others is more cool. Having a conversation is ice cold (in this context, that's good). I have been doing my best to keep up with the blog and balancing that with reading the blogs of others.
When we had an internal concall a few months back introducing new and potential bloggers to blogs.sun.com, one of the things that was brought up was the time investment. That reality is really hitting me hard now as my spare time window has hit near-zero over the past couple of months. Slurping coffee at the office-away-from-the-office (Starbucks) while reading the online news was always one of my favorite things to do. This was replaced by blogging fairly quickly.
My schedule has changed as well, so the slurping thing is now in the car in-between shaving, talking to my (medically recovering) father and listening to the radio. Yes, I am one of the much hated in-car groomers. I'm still looking for a hands-free razor. No luck, although this is probably something that could be accomplished in the car.
Back to the point, I feel a great amount of satisfaction being a part of various communities of interest and soaking in the different viewpoints. Someday my schedule will experience a tectonic shift and I will get back into a slurp-blogging schedule. In the mean time, I'll do what I can to be a member of the Participation Age. It something I truly love to do. And thank you for making it so rewarding.
