He then joined MySQL AB as a release engineer and later became a member of MySQL's Community Relations team.

Mail Bag

One of the guys in(sic) Banco do Brasil said in episode 45 that Bruno started Java in the bank in 1998. This is wrong. BB was the first company in Brazil to release a Java program in 1996. Just in the beginning. One of the developers (retired now) was invited by Sun Microsystems to be at the first JavaOne and when he returned he decided to make a Java applet for the bank browser.

When I started DFJUG (Feb 1998) we had in Brasilia 40 Java developers in the city, 35 from Bank of Brasil and (at the time) they had a lot of development experience. I'm quite sure about this numbers because I researched this subject when I started working for BB in January 2000. I worked there for 6 years. BTW, SouJava started in October 1999.
