From the JavaOne Speakers

In a series of interviews, JavaOne Content Chair Stephen Chin talks to Java luminaries about their sessions at JavaOne 2013

JavaOne Rockstar and Canoo Engineering Fellow Dierk König discusses his sessions about "Improving Your Groovy Kung Fu," OpenDolphin, and GroovyFX. "We need pioneers with 3D," explains Dierk. He contributed to several 3D enterprise applications with JavaFX and OpenDolphin and will be presenting a session titled "JavaFX for the Enterprise with OpenDolphin." 

Software architect Paul Bakker presents sessions on modularity, OSGI, Javascript, and other topics. He just finished writing a book titled "Modularity Cloud Apps with OSGi." 


Developer Trisha Gee at MongoDB talks about her session titled "Design is a Process, Not an Artifact." Her session is based on her work developing the Java MongoDB driver redesign. 


Java trainer and consultant Toni Epple has a number of sessions about JavaFX and NetBeans development. In this interview, he gives a sneak preview of his gaming framework and some of the cool apps he has been developing with them. 


Codegarten at JavaOne!

At JavaOne 2013, you can contribute to your favorite open source projects at the Codegarten in the OTN Lounge. Join open source experts and write a plugin, a feature, or a bug fix for a project you care about. It is a great way to get involved with open source and learn how to make a difference for the projects you're passionate about. Bring your laptop and your creativity to the OTN Lounge from 10:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Wednesday. Open to everyone, whatever your background. 

"It's the opportunity for like-minded developers to come together and produce a piece of code, a patch, documentation, testcases or any other kind of contribution to an open source project of their choosing" explains Andres Almiray. 

Java Champion, Griffon Lead, and Groovy Committer Andres Almiray along with Java Evangelist, and JavaFX Expert Stephen Chin are organizing the Codegarten. The projects on their list are Griffon, Groovy, GroovyFX, Gradle, Asciidoctor and more. 

They have done it before at Devoxx, Jazoon and Gr8conf to name a few.

All about Enterprise Applications

Challenge: Raspberry Pi at JavaOne

"Now I have almost everything to build my own refrigerator that will run Linux, Java on Raspberry Pi!" explains Vinicius Senger. Vinicius, who will run the challenge, is an enthusiastic, creative, and knowledgeable developer and instructor. He has created countless embedded applications running on Raspberry Pi and other boards over the years.

The Java Embedded Challenge for Raspberry Pi promises to be a geeky, fun, hands-on, collaborative and innovative extravaganza. You will have access to a dedicated room, training, experts and equipment. Raspberry Pi's and accessories will be provided.
