Daisuke Araki of Japan is the millionth Oracle Certified Java Developer. One million is a big number!
Araki-san lives in Toyama prefecture, a region in the center of Japan’s largest island, Honshu. The home of glaciers and a huge bay, Toyama is a major center of manufacturing, mining, and hydroelectric power.
After studying industrial engineering and management, Araki-san chose to work in the software engineering field because his father was also an engineer. He wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Araki-san graduated when he was 22 years old and began working as a software developer, initially focusing on testing and maintaining software documentation. Gradually he started to write code; after being promoted to senior developer, he expanded his role into software design and upstream engineering.
It’s been 20 years since Araki-san started his career in software engineering; today, he works at TechnoPro, Inc., a technology-focused services company that offers seasoned engineers and researchers to its clients around Japan and worldwide.
Currently, Araki-san is building an accounting system for one of TechnoPro’s clients.
Araki-san splits his coding time between Java and C#. Although his current work is not mainly with Java, he wanted to earn Oracle Java certification to prove his expertise and demonstrate the knowledge he has gained in practice. Also, he believes it is easier to deal with languages such as C# because he has experience with Java code.
He chose Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer certification because it is most applicable to the projects he is likely to be assigned to work on.
What’s next for Araki-san? He is now studying to obtain Oracle Database certification. He believes that his knowledge of programming and obtaining database skills will broaden his range as an engineer.
When he’s not programming, Araki-san enjoys time hiking with his wife, 22-year-old son, and 20-year-old daughter. He also focuses on fitness, running and walking at least 100 kilometers every month.
A developer who earns the Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer certification demonstrates the skills required of a professional Java developer. The certification is achieved after passing the Java SE Programmer I exam (1Z0-808).
While many developers such as Araki-san choose to becomes certified in Java SE 8 because of the large installed base of deployed software, another option is the brand-new Oracle Certified Professional: Java SE 17 Developer program and the 1Z0-829 exam.
Another option is Java SE 11 certification and the 1Z0-819 exam.
