Video: JavaFX with Gerrit Grunwald

Why use JavaFX? What can you do with it that you can't do with Swing? Java Champion, JavaFX community co-lead and JUG Leader Gerrit Grunwald answers these questions and more.

JFXtras: A set of high quality controls and add-ons for JavaFX.

ControlsFX: An open source project that aims to provide really high quality UI controls and other tools to complement the core JavaFX distribution.

Comments:

I believe that the question you are as asking is irrelevant. Today, from the viewpoint of current frontend practice, the majority will never chose JavaFX. Why? Perhaps if you ask; "What can you do with JavaScript and CSS that you can't do with JavaFX?", you might find a more challenging topic to debate. If you've written anything but demos in AWT/Swing/JavaFX, and spent some time doing the same in vanilla JavaScript/CSS/HTML you will find that you can, visually at the very least, do a whole lot more.

Looking just at the visual customization facility, what is the point of saying JavaFX supports CSS when it really only supports a custom set of attributes in CSS notation? None of which you can reuse in any other context.
