Sun/Oracle Java Certification and How to Show It Off

A couple JUG leaders inquired about their Sun Java Certifications. Here are the answers I got back from the nice people at Oracle University.

I'm a certified Java Developer. Is my certification with Sun or Oracle?

If you were certified on Java prior to Sept. 1, 2010, then you still hold a Sun-branded credential. The Sun branded credential is still 100% valid and fully recognized under the Oracle certification program. If you really want an Oracle-branded Java certification, you would need to upgrade to the latest release. For example, someone who holds SCJP 1.4 certification could upgrade to the Oracle Certified Professional, Java Programmer certification for Java SE 6. If you got/get your Java certification after Sept. 1, 2010, then it's a Oracle-branded certification. Visit the Oracle Sun Certification FAQ for more information.

Where can a get a certification logo to put on my business card or web page?

For Java, Oracle Solaris (Cluster), MySQL, NetBeans and OpenOffice.org certifications:

Log on to certview.oracle.com/sun. Under 'Certification Status,' you will be able to view the logos that are available to them based on certifications you have earned. There are several image download options; click on the file type that you would like to download.

For all other certifications:
Log on to certview.oracle.com. Under 'Certification Status,' you will be able to view the logos that are available to them based on certifications you have earned. There are several image download options; click on the file type that you would like to download.

Comments:

I like the way Oracle Java Certification programs are organized starting from associate level to architect and expert level.

Why don't you start assignment based certifications (similar to Java Developer Certification) for Java EE components/programs (JSP, JSF, Servlet, EJB, JPA, Web Services, etc)?

1) Create a web account at pearsonvue.com/oracle (using the Prometric ID)
If Pearson assigns you a new ID for any reason, immediately contact them at pearsonvue.com/oracle/idmerge to have the two IDs merged.
2) Wait approximately 24 hours and then go to certview.oracle.com to authenticate your account - using the email address and Oracle Testing ID from the profile at pearsonvue.com/oracle.
3) Confirm that your mailing address is correct and that your certifications all show up in CertView
4) Contact Oracle Certification Support http://bit.ly/KMsuH3 to request a reshipment of your certificate. It will be sent via email.

Hi Rodrigo,

Did you find any information? I am also facing the same problem. I took java 5.0 in 2008.

Regards,
Vikram
