Devoxx Knows How to Party

photo.JPGTo the delight of attendees, the Java Posse recorded their podcast live from Devoxx. Dick Wall, Carl Quinn, Joe Nuxoll and Tor Norbye staged a live survey. Java and Scala won the most cheers from the crowd for the most popular language on the JVM. They suggested a couple of names for the new JVM, resulting from Jrockit and Hotspot integration. "Bob" suggested by someone in the audience seems to have been the crowd's favorite. The audience shouted their favorite technologies and Devoxx sessions. The person with the most popular cowboy hat won a year's subscription for Parley's website.

Last night was dedicated to the meetings of Java User Group (JUG) leaders. It started with the annual JUG Bird of a Feather (BoF). Members of 70 different JUGs from all over Europe, 40 countries to be exact, were present. Leaders discussed the benefits of having an annual user group conference, where they would share expertise and learn more about Oracle and its technologies. A party with beers and appetizers followed, sponsored by Oracle. Discussions in small groups continued late into the night. Collaborations for future events were discussed, tips and successes were shared as well as inside jokes amongst friends. The atmosphere was joyful and everybody agreed that Belgian beer is the best.
