The spoon fed masses are getting their dose of the IRL 500 at Indy. What was lost during the race was there was a race and Danica Patrick wasn't everything. Does anyone remember who won the race, cuz it wasn't her. For those who don't know, like I am aware of, Danica has been racing in the ChampCar Ladder System for a number of years. She did a good job, but never won a race in the Toyota Atlantics the 2 years, I believe, she competed. I had hoped to see if she could handle a ChampCar someday, but now she is racing for the sellout Bobby Rahal in Honda's second factory team in the IRL. I don't question her talent, but could ABC actually shown the race instead of replaying her pit stall, or accurately report that she screwed up on the restart and nearly crashed out of the race. They didn't stop talking about her and ignored that it ended the day for Enge, Bucknum, and Scheckter. She was lucky she didn't crash and she wouldn't have been less of a driver for many have done it before, paging Roberto Guerrero. But the truth is she had better equipment than 75% of the cars on the track. Someone in the media please acknowledge that fact. Anyone who has a clue about auto racing knows it starts with the equipment. I don't care who is driving for Minardi or Jordan in Formula 1, one of those teams winning or getting on the podium is only via an act of God. Did Michael Schumacher forget how to drive or has the Bridgestone Tires failed to deliver? We all know it's the tires.
But that is why we have the horrible coverage of ABC who cares more about Danica's refueling and track position than concern about Bruno Junqueira's broken back because AJ IV can't drive and has a horrible car. Or even let us know why or who hit the wall at lap 198. But who cares if the defending ChampCar Champion hits the wall because Danica slowed up, probably because she was going to run out of fuel, causing Sebastien Bourdais get a cut tire. It was so sad, the announce, Mr Harris, didn't even know that the winner of the race had stalled his car doing dounts, and not that he ran out of fuel. The TV crew was too busy trying to get that interview with Danica to worry about the race. We just have to make sure Danica finishes for the glorious success story. This year's race should be called the Danica 500, because she was the only driver racing. And no matter how much they hype her, the IRL will still be unknown and worthless. If anyone cared about the racing, the would know who won or who was their defending champion. FTG.
