B2B Tracking for Wire and Business Transactions in Oracle Integration

Arvind Venugopal, and Sunil Apte

B2B Tracking enables you to have a specialized view into B2B transactions which allows B2B operators such as a B2B Analyst or a B2B Developer to track all the transactions and acknowledgements that are part of B2B flows. This provides you a view into all B2B runtime transactions including Wire and Business Messages. You can access this under the menu Monitoring -> B2B Tracking.

In this blog, we will walk through the key capabilities for ‘B2B Tracking’ focusing on the 2 key areas: Wire Messages and Business Messages. This is a new capability that was introduced as part of Oracle Integration which enables you to move to B2B transactions and workloads to the Cloud.

Wire Messages:

Wire Message Tracking enables you to see the transactions being exchanged with your Trading Partners via B2B connections. This primarily targets Transport (e.g., AS2 or FTP) level visibility where you will be able to see the details from the sessions established with your trading partners. Key pieces of information such as session logs including any errors, payload information as well as information on transport level acknowledgements will be represented at the Wire Message views.

For every transaction at the transport level, you will see an entry in the Wire Message UIs with key details such as Trading partner, state of the transaction, name/ID of the payload as well as the date/time information. You will be able to see any payload that has been sent and received via AS2 and FTP which are the 2 primarily protocols enabled for Trading Partner Management. For each session, you will be able to view primary information as well as specialized views where the transport level acknowledgements are reconciled (e.g. – MDN for AS2). There are also 7 different states provided where you can see successful transactions indicated in Green, warnings indicated in Yellow and errors indicated in Red (Please refer to the documentation for the details on various states)

You are able to view the following details for each of the Wire Message:

    • Primary Information on each session at the transport level

    • Transport level properties based on the type of protocol leveraged by the Trading Partner. This information will be based on the transport that is utilized with the Trading Partner.

    • Message logs which provide access to the key log information as well as the main steps within the execution. Also, the main error logs will be shown here for troubleshooting purposes

    • You can also access the actual payload here and download the data, if required

    • Also, any other message that is correlated to this particular transaction will be visible here such as integration that handled the MDN processes, Integration that processed the business level processing etc. This is key information where you can use the links to be taken directly to each of the related transactions or integrations. When you click on the related message, you will be taken to the respective filtered view which makes it easier for the user to track downstream and upstream transactions

The end user will also be able to filter down search criteria based on the extensive set of filters provided as well. You can use the filters below to narrow down your search to find the exact transaction.

Business Messages:

Business Message Tracking enables you to see the transactions or messages at a business level as they are being processed by the Integrations. The information will be broken down by each business transaction such as an order or an invoice. If your partner is sending you a big batch or file with multiple business transactions then we process the batch to each transaction and show this information in the Business Message views. Key pieces of information such as processing logs including any errors, payload information as well as information on functional acknowledgements will be represented at the Business Message views.

For every transaction at the functional level, you will see an entry in the Business Message UIs with key details such as Trading partner, state of the transaction, name/ID of the payload as well as the date/time information. You will be able to see any payload that has been sent and received. For each transaction, you will be able to primary information as well as specialized views where the functional acknowledgements are reconciled (e.g. – FA/997 for X12). There are also 13 different states provided where you can see successful transactions indicated in Green, warnings indicated in Yellow and errors indicated in Red (Please refer to the documentation for the details on various states)

You are able to view the following details for each of the Wire Message:

  • Apart from the primary information, you will be able to see the following:

    • Primary Information for each transaction shows you the key metadata for each functional transaction processed

    • Transaction level properties based on the type of transaction used by the Trading Partner including any business identifiers you configure at the document level settings

    • Message logs which provide access to the key log information as well as the main steps within the execution. Also, the main error logs will be shown here for troubleshooting purposes

    • You can also access the actual payload here and download the data, if required

    • Also, any other message that is correlated to this particular transaction will be visible here such as integration that handled the Acknowledgement processes, Integration that processed the wire level processing, backend integration etc. Similar to Wire Messages, this gives you an easy way to find upstream and downstream integrations that handled the transaction or information on how an acknowledgement was handled

In the transactional system, you will have a large number of transactions and you can use the extensive filters supported to be able to narrow down your search quickly based on key metadata such as Trading Partner Name, document type etc.

Here is a full view of how the Wire and Business Messages will look once you have active transactions with your Trading Partner
