Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Service customers have the most secure and best performing Oracle Database platform engineered for mission critical and business critical deployments in the cloud. With the SAP certification, customers now can deploy Oracle Database for SAP NetWeaver 7.x based applications on Database Exadata Cloud Service X8.

Use cases

Thus far, we have seen two major customer use cases when migrating Oracle Database for SAP applications to Database Exadata Cloud Service:

  1. Customers who plan to expand their current infrastructure into the Oracle Cloud, gaining flexibility, cost advantages and automation. These customers currently run their most demanding Oracle Database instances for SAP applications on Oracle Exadata on-premise with great results and wish to have the same experience in the cloud by using Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Service. Those customers plan to expand their current infrastructure into the Cloud, thus taking advantage of the additional flexibility, cost advantages and automation of the Cloud.
  2. Customers running Oracle, ISV, or homegrown (self-developed or customized) applications, and wish to standardize on an ideal consolidation platform, in this case Exadata, which they expand again to the Oracle Cloud by using Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Service. SAP applications are then added as a component of this overall consolidation and standardization exercise.

Cintra, an Oracle Platinum Partner provides an illustration of this use case. Cintra’s customer is a retailer with $1B per year in sales. The retailer was running an Oracle Database for SAP ERP on an end-of-life on-premise infrastructure. Having compared AWS and Oracle Cloud, Cintra recommended Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Service and successfully moved the customer’s SAP environment in 90 days, using their RapidCloud transformational methodology.

Cintra acted as the service partner doing the migration from on-prem Exadata to the Oracle Cloud. The chart below shows a typical SAP environment with various databases consolidated on one Exadata Cloud Service machine.

The benefits this customer achieved were:

  • Avoided $2.5M on-premise technology refresh costs
  • Achieved major milestone in getting out of running data centers
  • Accelerated user experience and application performance
  • Enabled customer to run business, not IT
  • Run SAP applications on modern infrastructure without the capital expenditures
  • Fast cloud deployment
  • Improved performance and SLAs across all Client Applications/Environments
  • 5x Production improvement on Exadata on premise
  • Lower environments on Bare Metal
  • Maintain superior Business Continuity
  • Increase data security and lower business risk
  • Leverage Exadata as a consolidation platform
  • Reduced costs by transferring and optimizing existing Licenses

Conclusion

Customers who want to expand their Oracle Exadata environment into the Cloud or want to consolidate several landscapes and applications, such as SAP, in the Cloud, now can use Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Service with very satisfying results.
