Mercer Eases Deployment and Improves Performance Up to 45 Percent

Nancy Swanson
Director, Product Marketing

Mercer is a global consulting leader in talent, health, retirement, and investments. They employ more than 21,000 people that strive to enhance the health, wealth, and careers of a 110 million people worldwide.

An Oracle customer for many years, Mercer uses Oracle Database Appliance for its EasyEnroll health and benefit administration software product, which is used by 7.6 million people across the globe.

We asked Lead Database Administrator Kari Jacobs why Mercer chose Oracle Database Appliance.

  1. Easy deployment. Mercer installed three Oracle Database Appliances in one day—from taking them out of the box to having a database installed in one data center.
  2. Strong integration between the database and the hardware. Mercer liked the fact that both came from the same vendor so support is streamlined.
  3. Capacity-on-demand licensing. Because Mercer is running Oracle Database Enterprise Edition, they are able to scale processor cores when needed without having to purchase new hardware—initially saving them a significant amount of money.
  4. Excellent performance. Mercer has seen a 15 percent overall improvement in performance. Looking at strictly database activity, they're seeing a 45 percent performance improvement.

To hear more from Kari herself about Oracle Database Appliance and the benefits Mercer is seeing from it, listen to this short podcast.

This is a great blog. I would be interested to know what type of infrastructure Mercer was using prior to their investment in ODA. Was it a relatively simple migration?
