Learn how businesses like yours can begin to optimize for today and plan for tomorrow with Cloud-Ready IT Infrastructure

A More Flexible Path To The Cloud

Anne Plese
Director, Product Marketing, Cloud Infrastructure Database Solutions

The cloud is affecting every market sector. It offers agility and flexible cost structures. It lets business leaders quickly develop and test new products they can take to market fast and it enables them to create new models that will transform how they work.

Previously, Tina Liu talked about how you can extend your private cloud capabilities with Oracle engineered systems to experience the benefits of running your business in the cloud on your terms with investments into technologies like the Oracle Private Cloud Appliance and Oracle SuperCluster that can help organizations future-proof their move to the cloud. And Amitab Sharma shared his view about how hybrid cloud solutions work in the public sector.

This time, I’d like to discuss how deploying a hybrid cloud, a combination of public and private cloud solutions, is a practical step for enterprise organizations who are open to the agility gains of a public cloud yet still need the control, security, and transparency of a private cloud run on-premises. Are you ready to transform your business on your terms?

Why Go Hybrid?

There isn’t just one solution or one path to the cloud. Every business is unique, and each will approach its journey to the cloud with a distinct set of requirements in mind. To make yours easier, you need a trusted cloud provider that offers a range of options for moving your current IT services, that align to your specific business challenges.

A recent Harvard Business Review report shows that 61% of IT and business professionals need cloud applications to access information stored in data centers. And they need options that are seamlessly compatible across both cloud and on-premises environments, even for virtualized workloads.

It's clear now why the number of customers deploying a hybrid cloud model is growing rapidly. Hybrid cloud solutions allow you to deploy and manage IT resources on-premises and through public ones like the Oracle Cloud, as one. This means you can easily move application components or run workloads between your on-premises infrastructure and the public cloud, allowing you to seamlessly improve performance, expand capacity and create more business value.

The Perfect Use Case for Hybrid Cloud

A great example of how our customers are deploying hybrid cloud solutions in their environment is for application development and testing. With a hybrid cloud solution, you can effectively show efficiency in the form of agility gains and cost savings because, by moving to a variable cost model, you only pay for what you use and its easier to see how much you are actually using. Compare that to a homegrown in-house development environment where resources have to be provisioned in advance. The result? Hardware that just sits in your data center, taking up space, power, cooling, etc. whether you use them or not. And studies have shown that over the lifespan of typical hardware investment, the utilization rate is pretty poor.

Oracle's hybrid cloud approach begins with the facts that we have constructed both the private and public cloud options. That way we can ensure 100% compatibility between development and production. Same standards. Same products. Same management. So if you run workloads on an on-premises Exadata, you best believe that your workloads are 100% compatible in the cloud. This type of efficiency means shorter development cycles and greater overall productivity for dev teams. At a strategic level, IT leadership can easily validate that hybrid cloud model as more efficient use of available resources.

A Cloud Option for Everyone

In today’s increasingly competitive landscape, you need options that allow you to adapt to changing markets on demand. Having the same technology on-premises and in the public cloud gives you an advantage by providing you with the flexibility to use all your existing IT processes, architectural blueprints, and network topology whenever it suits you. It’s this flexibility that sets our hybrid cloud solutions apart.

Every modern cloud starts with a strong IT infrastructure foundation; it’s fundamental to performance, scalability, deployments, security, and data migration. Oracle engineered systems offer the full stack of core capabilities available, including elastic compute, storage, networking, bare metal, migration tools, and container, all managed by a single vendor. And we offer a choice of consumption models and entry points that meet the needs for any business and every stakeholder. Because the hardware and software is engineered to work together, there are no issues with performance, security, or management when you move workloads back and forth, making Oracle engineered systems an efficient hybrid cloud strategy.
