Enabling Real-Time Analytics With Database In-Memory

Release of Oracle Database In-Memory Advisor

Maria Colgan
Master Product Manager

Today Oracle released the new Oracle Database In-Memory Advisor (In-Memory Advisor). The goal of this advisor is to identify analytic workloads that will benefit from Oracle Database In-Memory.

The In-Memory Advisor identifies analytic workloads by analyzing Active Session History (ASH) and AWR data. It differentiates analytic processing from other database activity, based upon SQL plan cardinality, use of parallel query, and other statistics.

The Advisor produces a report identifying the objects that should be
placed In-Memory for maximum benefit, along with a SQL*PLUS script which
implements those recommendations. It also estimates the size of the objects in the In-Memory column store based upon statistics and heuristic compression factors.

The Advisor can be run on Oracle Database and above, in order to plan your adoption of Oracle Database In-Memory in

Please note the Advisor is licensed as part of the Database Tuning Pack and relies on data coming from the Database Diagnostic Pack.

You can download the Advisor, via MOS note 1965343.1. Additional information about the Advisor can be found on Oracle.com.

We just upgraded one 11G environment to 12c, We run a in memory advisor task that failed with the following error:
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-20001: No analytics database activity was detected
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_INMEMORY_ADVISOR", line 46
    ORA-06512: at line 11
I am searching on it to figure out what approach could address the issues.
