We are happy to announce that Oracle Database scored highest in both the current offering and strategy categories in the The Forrester Wave™: Translytical Data Platforms, Q4 2019.
Oracle Database In-Memory, with its unique dual-format (row and column) architecture, provides a natural platform for Translytical (converged Transactional and Analytical) workloads. The column format is ideal for Analytics, and the row format is ideal for Transactions. Database In-Memory supports both formats simultaneously for the same data, and both are fully consistent with each other, thus allowing the highest possible performance for Translytical workloads without any tradeoffs.
Note that Oracle Database In-Memory also extends in-memory columnar processing to the Flash tier on Exadata, providing massive performance gains for queries that are offloaded to storage and resulting in an effective column store capacities of 100s of Terabytes.
We believe the the Wave report is another testament to Oracle Database as a Converged data platform, one with multiple specialized algorithms for different use cases, supporting a rich diversity of workloads with a variety of processing and data models, within the same database. A data architecture based on Oracle converged database is far superior to one based on having a separate single-purpose database for each use case. A converged database greatly simplifies administration, provides far greater security, eliminates multiple copies of data, and simplifies application development compared to a plethora of single purpose databases.
