Back in the spring of this year some of us started talking about how OpenSolaris would make a killer platform for a storage appliance. We were so excited about things like ZFS, iSCSI, SAM/QFS, Availability Suite and the many other technologies that are in (or going into) OpenSolaris. There are so technologies that make Solaris great and seeing most of them appear in OpenSolaris it only made sense that we might bundle all of it together and put int into a single "package". The dream if an OpenSolaris storage personality is still alive and looks to be one step closer to reality.
- Flexibility of Linux
- Stability of OpenSolaris
I sure would have like Sun to do this first, but I'm very excited about seeing the hard work of the OpenSolaris Storage Community paired with the energy and creativity of the Nexenta crew.
I wish Nexenta much success and look forward to them helping grow our already vibrant Storage Community. Maybe with a cool management app?
