Oracle Nominates Bruno Souza of SouJava to JCP EC

Oracle is nominating SouJava, the Brazilian Java User Group, to a seat in the JCP Executive Committee. SouJava is one of the oldest and largest Java User Groups in the world with 40,000 members (*) and based in a region where Java and open-source software is prominent. The organization will be represented by its former president Bruno Souza, a well-known independent Java and open source advocate, and earlier member of the OSI.

Bruno has a long history with the JCP where he was one of the first individual members to join the organization in 2002. SouJava joined as an organization in 2005 and is now one of many JUGs on the JCP, but so far without a EC seat. We nominate SouJava and Bruno to the EC expecting them to represent the interests of Java users and serve as a community counterbalance to Oracle and other large enterprises on the EC. We are looking forward to Bruno's active participation in the JCP and helping us bring Java forward as well as helping reform the JCP in the coming years.

Comments:

Sounds good. I suggested to nominate a JUG after working closely with some in India. Glad to hear, Oracle/JCP has picked up the idea.

This is an excellent nomination! I've known Bruno for a few years through his work on the NetBeans project. We've come to count on him for always having thoughtful advice and insight that's considerate to all involved.

Mauricio - I got the 40,000 number from Bruno who kindly reviewed the blog post prior to it going live.
