ASCII Automata in JavaScript

I stayed up past one AM last night coding this:

ASCII Automata

Waste of time? Perhaps, but I'm fascinated by this stuff. These are the one-dimensional binary cellular automata popularized by Wolfram, rendered here in ASCII. Initially I tried to represent the black cells using absolutely positioned <img> elements, but browsers get a tad cranky when you try to append 20K+ image nodes. Who knew? So ASCII it was. Be sure to check out rule 30, rule 110 and rule 22. Toggle the randomizer to see the difference. If you like this kind of weird stuff, then check out this crazy spiral thing I made a couple years ago. Finally, no mention of CAs would be complete without a link to Conway's Game of Life.
