Scottish Oracle User Group Experiences
By Grant Ronald on Jun 10, 2011
Back from the Scottish Oracle User Group which was held in the Oracle/Sun offices in Linlithgow near Edinburgh. Was impressed with a great turnout to this event, looked to be about 200 delegates spread over 5 or 6 streams. I started the day off with a Dummies Guide to ADF and was pleased to see a great turnout where we were having to squeeze people in. This is actually quite a difficult presentation since its like trying to teach "The Oracle Database" in 45 minutes - it can't be done but what you can do is try and give people the essense of what its about and how they might go and start learning for themselves.
I then went to a Forms to Apex presentation, they didn't go into a lot of technical detail but it was interesting to understand some of the motivating factors for moving.
After lunch (minor complaint, most of the food had gone by the time I got the to the table!) I did a Forms to ADF session then ended the day with "Tips and Tricks of ADF" - given the audience were all relatively new to ADF I kept to the more higher level tips and tricks but hope that some of the points I made might stick when they eventually pick up ADF.
All in all, a good event with a good turn out. To the customers I spoke to who were interesting in me maybe following up with some of the questions/discussions, feel free to email me ( you can work out the email address ;o) ) and I'll see how I can help.
