Gartner Report on Oracle Forms talks about ADF, APEX and Modernization

The following Gartner report might be an interesting read for Forms customers.  Anyone considering their Oracle Forms future, migration, tool based migration or even Apex.  Some VERY interesting comments about each of these.

As you know from our Forms Statement of Direction, we are still supporting and developing Oracle Forms and I'm pretty happy that the Gartner report acknowledges that Forms remains a viable option for your current IT strategy and that for those looking to migrate, that JDeveloper and ADF represent the lowest risk factor.

The report also makes an interesting observation with respect Apex: where it fits, and also doesn't fit, as a Forms alternative.

Comments:

Our organization is currently considering both JDeveloper (with ADF) and Oracle Forms for Enterprise App development. I understand from searches on Google that these two are not competing technologies and the requirements will dictate which way to go. We do not have significant expertise on either technology though we have some Java/.NET developers in the team. Can you point to a few good articles that could help us decide which technology to use as we firm up our requirements?

If you are new to both technologies then I would be choosing ADF - ADF is the core framework and development technology at the heart of Oracle's future business applications. So definitely ADF.
