In my last blog, I spoke with Scott Gaetjen, Chief Architect of Oracle National Security Group’s Cloud Program Management Office (PMO).  We talked about the many benefits Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) offers to the U.S. intelligence community.

In this blog, I continued my conversation with Scott, and we talked specifically about the vast amounts of data that IC agencies collect and analyze to support its missions.  As the former Technical Director of Mission Analytics at the NSA, I know first-hand that as our cyber-physical world has evolved, data has also evolved from siloed sources of structured data to enormous quantities of multi-dimensional, spatial, and temporal data.  IC agencies need to derive analytics insights using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to make sense of these vast, varied datasets, and that means running custom database workloads at speed, scale, and, of course, low cost.

Scott told me about about the “infinite scalability” of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and its ability to run enormous custom workloads and native low-code advanced analytics.  According to Scott, “Many of Oracle customers have petabytes of data, and they run into performance-related scalability and cost issues with competitor cloud solutions.”

Scott described how OCI can run custom workloads at scale compared to competitors.  Here’s what he had to say:

  • Oracle Bare Metal Compute -- “This solution is unique because you get dedicated servers, not just virtualized machines.  It’s great for my customers that need large amounts of memory for custom workloads.  In independent comparison tests against the leading classified cloud vendor on performance and price, OCI Bare Metal wins hands-down with 2X-5X better performance and much lower pricing.”
  • Bare Metal HPC -- “In the past, customers would rent time slices of powerful and performance compute resources on a mainframe to avoid large capital expenditures.  Oracle Bare Metal HPC is like that.  Customers can rent a time slice or subscribe for an hour’s worth of processing time for those situations when they need high core counts and large memory bandwidth for simulations, modeling, and other bursty big data workloads.  It’s 44% cheaper than the leading cloud on the market today, and probably even cheaper for the classified cloud, with more features and performance SLAs.”
  • Bare Metal GPU -- “This option is great for agency customers who need to process and analyze huge data sets with AI and ML algorithms.”  Scott’s assertion is correct, and based on my experience in Mission Analytics at the NSA, I can attest to the effectiveness of GPU’s at helping to crack what were once wicked problems.

Let Oracle run a data performance trial for your agency.

If you’re interested in getting a first-hand look at the capabilities of the OCI and how it can help your agency run large custom workloads at a lower cost, dedicated Oracle IC sales engineers can conduct a cloud-assisted trial at your agency.
