Recap - LA Digital Government Summit - 9/13/2010

Had the opportunity to present with CA and Vion Consulting in LA Digital Government Summit -2010.  I talked about the roadblocks to adoption of cloud computing and how data center consolidation is in front and center right now for many S&L agencies. It was a good conversation and lot of good questions - specifically in the area of collaboration -given city of LA's move to Google Mail services. One of the key challenges that S&L agencies face in their move to cloud, be it private or public is data classification. Understanding the data that goes through a mail system and protecting the data (unstructured mostly) is fundamental for an enterprise in its move to cloud. One can make sure that sensitive data is not sent out by using a combination of perimeter protection software at the network level and products like Oracle Information Rights Management.  More on collaboration services in a later post.
