I joined Sun's Stratic Application Engineering group on 4/12/97 to work on Commerical Starfire Performance. I focus on primarily Oracle database performance. Our group is responisible for benchmarking the "Big Iron". My job is similiar to a race car mechanic, except I tune and prep computers for the track and not Porsches or BMWs. We test the absolute limits of the HW and produce the world record setting benchmarks. As a result of this experience, we write papers for conferences such as SUPerG, provide feedback to engineering, and assist customers with performance issues.
Several of my conference papers have been turned into Blueprints:
- SVM performance best practices
- Avoiding Common Performance issues scaling Oracle on Sun Servers
Our group has changed names several times since I joined. We are currently called RABM or "Reference Architecture and Benchmark" group. Before joining Sun, worked at Sequent Computer Systems for 4 1/2 years. I am well versed in Oracle performance issues. Feel free to send me a note if you have any questions.
