Mentoring GSOC on Printer Management

I have meant to write this up last week. I am mentoring for the first time ever for GSOC. His name is Rui Tiago Cação Matos, a final year of Computers and
Telematic Engineering at the University of Aveiro [1]. He will be working to improve the GUI for system-config-printer. The broad goal is to make it ready as a candidate for printers management to be blessed by the GNOME release team :)

Welcome Rui!! Looking forwards to work with you!

[1] It is in Portuguese, another little thing in life that I have to start learning :).
Though I am glad Rui's English is actually very good.

Comments:

Wy not use the printing config tool from rehad and ubuntu and improve that one and include it in gnome. Than u have a big addoption at start.

Hi,
The printing configuration tool in redhat and ubuntu is known as system-config-printer, so this is what the summer student Rui is working on.

Nice to hear that. System-config-printer is nice, but it needs GUI polishing and definitely nice icons for status/printers/stuff. Wish you and your student luck!

That is great to hear I hoop it will be a big success. For the adoption of linux on the desktop we need global collaboration on the different configuration tools from distributions and the only way to do that is to include them in the gnome desktop. A good example is the new display tool that redhad ubuntu and suse linux are working on together.
