The Darcula plugin for NetBeans IDE has been verified by the community, which means you can now go to Tools | Plugins in NetBeans IDE 8.1 and install it directly from there:
Next, let's change the NetBeans editor so that its font and color themes match the Darcula look and feel that the plugin above has installed into the IDE. Go to Tools | Options and in the "Fonts & Colors" tab, select "Norway Today" in the Profile drop-down box, as shown below. That gives us a nice starting point. Let's now customize the Norway Today profile. Go to the Default category of "All Languages" and change the "Background" to "Dark Gray", as shown below.
Switch to the Highlighting subtab, as shown below, and find the "Line Number" category. Set its "Background" to "Dark Gray", too, as shown below.
Finally, change the font size to whatever you like. For example, I always use "Consolas 18 Bold", as can be seen below.
The only thing I'd like to do that I haven't figured out is to change the size of the font in menus, etc, to be larger. The default seems to be 12 or 13 and there appears to be no way to change that. Not really a big problem, though. But would be nice to be able to change that.
Awesome, thanks!
Thanks! I miss that from visual studio (dark theme). The only thing i didn't like is the look when you edit a form, it's all dark and when you run it's grey. It's consufin lol
After installing the Darcula plugin, should it show up in the LookandFeel section? If not, what LAF do you choose? (I installed and it doesn't show up - so Dark Nimbus is what I use to have a Dark LAF. Regular Nimbus is light.)
It currently doesn't show up in the LookandFeel section, that's one thing being worked on. Once you install the Darcula plugin, and you restart, you should immediately see the UI change to Darcula. NetBeans command line option "--fontsize <size in points>" might work, though it sets the fontsize in menus, tabs, trees, etc.
Not with this plugin, no. The fontsize switch does not work with this plugin.
This is really wonderful, thanks a lot!
Hi everybody;
Version 1.1 of the plugin fixing font size issue (and others) is available, currently in verification review. Please enjoy.
Version 1.2 of the plugin is currently available and the source code is open sourced: https://github.com/Revivius/nb-darcula The --fontsize switch has worked since version 1.1 and you can switch between LAFs including Darcula now in the Options window, as well as many other enhancements.
This Darcula plugin has one nice advantage over the "Dark Look And Feel Themes" plugin for Mac OS X users: Native Apple menu bar works automatically rather than moving the menu bar within the NetBeans window.
The best look and feel I have seen so far for netbeans
Thank you very much for this very awesome plugin. I have been looking for this for very long time.
I can't find Fonts & Colors tab. What is wrong??
I don't know what's wrong. Start by opening the Options window under the Tools menu. There you'll find the tab.
