Organizing my NetBeans IDE 5.0 Projects

Geertjan Wielenga
Product Manager
Until yesterday, my projects were just like everyone else's—a long list, sorted alphabetically:

Now, however, thanks to a new module by Tim Boudreau (it's in CVS, but I don't know under what name), my life is much neater and simpler—I have folders where I can group related projects:

Thanks a lot Tim!

Thanks Tor. So, here's Tim's source code inside the user interface that it creates in the IDE:

    Hi,

where can I found a nbm file for install? Or I need download the sources and build this?

    Regards!

Hi Michel, I wrote to Tim and asked him whether I could post his NBM here in my blog. He hasn't replied yet, but as soon as he has, and if he says 'yes', I'll put a link to it here. But he's a pretty busy guy, on the NetBeans World Tour somewhere, I guess, and setting up the NetBeans Challenge.

This plugin seems promising. I have been long looking for something similar to Eclipse's workspace. This might just do.

It would also be cool if you could 'disable' a certain project group so that they don't load.

At this stage, you shouldn't expect too much funtionality from this particular module. All sorts of people have all sorts of plans about what kinds of things it should ultimately be able to do, but right now all you should expect from it is 'grouping' functionality. In other words, currently it does nothing more than what a folder in a filesystem does -- it lets you put related things in one place. This is really very useful and, if you expect nothing more from it than that, you will find it very useful.

FYI, it should be available from the update center for development builds as of January 3, 2006.

    Geertjan,
I am trying to find (download or use updater) the module you've mentioned in the "Organizing my NetBeans IDE 5.0 Projects" above. Could you please point me to the right direction where to get it?
Tim mentioned that it's available from the "update center for development builds", how do it get it in NB IDE 5.0.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Andrew

Hi Andrew, one place to find it is in the NetBeans sources, in "contrib", one of the top most levels of the NetBeans sources.
