    So I bought this booked and its definitely not a Netbeans cookbook of any sort, its basically a VERY basic user guide to Netbeans. Very disappointed with it and have no means to return as I bought the $30 ebook !
    Other books do the same job far cheaper..

    Hi Geertjan,
    I am the author of the book and I would like to thank you for the free publicity. :)
    Perhaps a beer when you come to Finland?
    cheers,
    Rhawi Dantas

    @mostin It is a pity that you did not enjoy the book. I did put a lot of effort and tried to bridge both novice to more experienced users of the IDE. You can understand that, because of page constraints, we simply can not cover the book in the extent all users want. Also a Cookbook is defined as a series of articles that will help users cover from ground up with a certain technology.

    Hi guys I am looking a book to buy that will teach me how to develop swing applications using the netbeans platform, I need a detailed book that will cover advanced concepts as well. Any suggestions or ideas, I would prefer the most recent books...

    @Tinashe
    I think a good book you could take a look at developing swing apps from scratch is:
    https://www.packtpub.com/netbeans-platform-6-9-developers-guide/book
    Also if you already grasp the concepts of Swing development there is a lot of handy sample codes included with NetBeans IDE already. Hope this was of help.

    I'm happy with the book. Any book's utility depends in part on the level of the reader. This book already is proving very useful for me -- a 'domain guy' who's shoe-horning an old app into the NB RCP.
    (I understand how it might not meet the needs of someone already well versed in software engineering; but such potential buyers need only scan the ToC and sample chapter on the Packt website before making a decision.)

    Hi Geertjan, do you have any plans on updating the book "Rick Client Platform" using the netbeans platform. It's a great book but I find it outdated and hard to use when trying to work with it using Netbeans 7.0.

    Thanks,

    Vin
