Hello Facelets

Geertjan Wielenga
Product Manager
I took the Getting Started with Facelets doc and worked through it in NetBeans. Within no time everything was set up and working (I was actually able to start midway through the tutorial, where it first starts getting interesting, because there the view-oriented templating stuff begins, which is what Facelets is all about). This was possible because of this brand new open source project:

You can download the NetBeans modules there (and join the forum). For a lengthy document (with screenshots) describing the length and breadth of Facelets support in NetBeans IDE, see Support for Facelets in NetBeans IDE.

Here's the NetBeans result of the first application you build in Getting Started with Facelets:

Apart from being able to select JAR files and set up a source project, the extensions to the editor for Facelets support look pretty interesting and advanced for a project that has only just been launched.

The project is looking for feedback from real Facelets users. If you are one of them, it would be great if you'd try out the NetBeans support modules for this framework and evaluate them and comment on how they could/should be enhanced.

In other news. Check out Bernhard Huber's blog. It is fantastic, lots of cool stuff relating to NetBeans module development.

I've been waiting for some good Facelets auto-completion support and this looks like exactly what I want.
I'm already working on a Facelets project with NetBeans so this is perfect for me.
I'll probably wait until the next NetBeans 5.5 beta or RC is released to try this.

Beta is already releases. In fact, Beta 2 is already released too. However, as indicated in the document (http://wiki.netbeans.info/wiki/view/FaceletsSupport) you need a build from AFTER Beta 2. Good luck, and please pass on any good/bad experiences.
