XML Schema Editor in NetBeans IDE 7.0.1

Do you need a visual XML schema editor in NetBeans IDE 7.0.1? Here's how:

  1. Go to Tools | Plugins in NetBeans IDE 7.0.1. In the Settings tab, register this update center:

    http://deadlock.netbeans.org/hudson/job/xml/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/build/updates/updates.xml

  2. Now go to the Available Plugins tab and search for XML Tools. Install that plugin.

  3. And now you have a pretty cool XML schema editor. Go to the New File dialog and pick an XML schema file:

You'll see a multiview editor with visual support for editing XML schema files:

Note, however, that the XML schema editor is part of the archived SOA Tools, so you can't file issues against this tool, since there is no longer support for it. Still, it seems to work fine, at least, on first trying it, so give it a try.

Great!

Would you please add it to the list of plugins at plugins.netbeans.org so that it's easy to find?

Note: I do see that there is already a plugin there called 'XML Tools' - but going by the description, it appears that it is a different thing.

If that's true, wow will that work out? Can two different plugins have the same name?

Best Regards,
Peter.

Yup , remember this one was a great plugin. Used it with the open-esb ,would be good to have it have a core feature

Incredible that Netbeans doesn't have this functionality out of the box. Only dtd is supported. Really old-fashioned ...

Thank you. Good tip.
Could you please recommend how to turn on XSLT schema editor code completion?

Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for a NetBeans 7 version of this plugin for a long time. All the threads I've come across so far have pointed me to dead ends.

I did have to try to install it several times, since the install process kept hanging. However, it eventually worked.

I'm shocked this tool is not mentioned anywhere on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XML_Schema_Editor. Its a shame that such a useful and highly polished plugin is not still shipped with the normal distro. Thank you so much for this post! You have made my world so much easier ;)
